The goal of this course is to teach you how to build multi-body and complex shape solid models using SOLIDWORKS mechanical design automation software. Most of the case studies and exercises in this course are taken from industrial type applications, and the lessons primarily center around working with solids. Surfacing functions are covered in depth in the Advanced Surface Modeling course.

The tools for modeling complex shapes in SOLIDWORKS are quite robust and feature rich. During this course, we will cover many of the commands and options in great detail. However, it is impractical to cover every minute detail and still have the course be a reasonable length. Therefore, the focus of this course is on the fundamental skills, tools, and concepts central to successfully building multi-body and complex shape solid models. You should view the training course manual as a supplement to, not a replacement for, the system documentation and on-line help. Once you have developed a good foundation in the skills covered in this course, you can refer to the online help for information on less frequently used command options.

The SOLIDWORKS Part Modeling training guide will be supplied at the beginning of class and is yours to keep.

Students will gain the following skills working with advanced assembly techniques and methodologies. - Creating solids from swept profiles and surface geometry - Lofting complex shapes - Face deformation utilizing the "Shape" and "Dome" features - Creating compound and projected 3D curves - Utilizing visible spectrum curvature analysis of complex face geometry
